44th Annual Al Edwards Juneteenth Celebration at 1859 Ashton Villa

Local elected officials and family members will pay homage to former State Representative Al Edwards in front of the 1894 Ashton Villa.


Also known as Mr. Juneteenth, Edwards was a civil rights activist and former Houston legislator who helped Texas become the first state in the U.S. to make an official holday to mark the abolition of slavery.
